In a municipal council meeting held on Thursday at Christ the King Church, Town Clerk Mr. Tagobya Prosper announced plans to rehabilitate all roads within Rukungiri Municipality, funded by the Ministry of Works and Development.

Mr. Prosper noted that road maintenance had stalled due to mechanical issues with the municipality’s grader and the wait for council approval to hire equipment. With approval now granted, the municipality’s engineer is set to hire the necessary grader and other equipment, utilizing funds for the first and second quarters, alongside an additional UGX 500 million allocated by the government for road maintenance.

Mr. Kijukuru Vianny, councilor for Kitimba Ward and chairperson of the Social Services Committee, highlighted key resolutions from the council meeting. Among these was the establishment of a government-aided primary school in Ndorero Ward to address the area’s lack of educational facilities. Another resolution involves creating a play area for Kinyasaano Boarding Primary School, which, despite a student body of over 1,200, lacks dedicated sports facilities.

Councilor Vianny also raised concerns over recent projects beginning in some areas without proper notification to area leaders, urging the Town Clerk to keep leaders informed ahead of future projects.

Additionally, the council, led by Speaker Constance, addressed recent issues of council documents being shared on social media before official approval. In response, the council resolved to investigate the source of the leak, issuing a warning and suspending the responsible councilor for one meeting should they be identified.

Further council resolutions included contracting the UPDF Engineering Brigade for the construction of Phase 3 of the municipal office block, the demolition of the Ntungamo Stage canteen to create a green space, and implementing stricter curfews on public gatherings, such as crusades and overnight activities, with police and security committee cooperation to enforce a midnight closing time.
