On Thursday, February 9th, 2024, authorities of Rukungiri Municipal Council launched the construction of a new road named after Rwakaana – Kifunjo Road. The estimated cost of the project is over 10.4 million shillings. This road, spanning 1.1 kilometers, will start from Riverside Valley and connect to Kifunjo Road at Rukungiri Town Council Primary School. The goal is to complete the construction as soon as possible.

Karumuna Alex, the Chairperson of LC1 Kifunjo Cell in Kyatoko Ward, Eastern Division, emphasized the significance of the road in ensuring the safety of students who previously risked drowning in the river while using the alternative route. He also highlighted the potential for rapid development in the area due to its high population.

Bamanyisa Christopher Kashaija and Ariho Judith, Division Councilors representing Kyatoko Ward, expressed gratitude for the road project, stating that it would relieve them from the burden of constantly rehabilitating the temporary bridge and would spur development with the construction of plots along the road.

Kushaba Laban Katende, the Senior Environment Officer of Rukungiri Municipal Council, assured that the road construction adheres to environmental guidelines.

Lion MJF Tagobya Prosper, the Deputy Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipal Council, cautioned engineers to strictly follow the Bills of Quantities (BOQs) to ensure quality work that reflects the value for money.

Tumwesigye David, the Chairperson of LC3 Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, commended residents for their willingness to sacrifice their land for the construction of the road. He urged them to monitor the project closely to ensure quality work as authorities oversee the progress.
