Rukungiri Manchester United fans have conducted a charitable drive aimed at donating food, clothing, and home necessities to vulnerable households in Rukungiri Municipality and Buhunga Sub-County.
The charity initiative claims to have supported more than 20 vulnerable households in both areas as a gesture of unity, compassion, and sympathy during this Lenten season and ahead of the Easter festivities.
Johnbosco Twesigomwe, the administrator of Rukungiri Manchester United Fans and principal community development officer of Rukungiri Municipality, told Boona Radio that the drive involved donations of food, clothing, and essential items such as soap and petroleum jelly to selected and verified needy families. The initiative was also intended to help these families prepare for Easter Sunday, which falls on 20th April.
Johnbosco added that the group has previously carried out similar charitable works, including the donation of chairs to All Saints Church and Christ the King Church in Rukungiri. He confirmed that the fans are committed to continuing such charitable efforts to serve as examples of unity, compassion, and cooperation among football fans.
Tugumisirize Henry, chairperson of the Rukungiri Manchester United Fans Association, also told Boona Radio that the purpose of the charity drive was to support vulnerable people and demonstrate that football supporters can be examples of unity and compassion.
He emphasized that the activity was not politically motivated, stressing that all contributions came directly from the fans themselves. He warned that no politician should try to use their charitable efforts for political gain.
Namara Allen Muteesa from Rutooma, Buhunga Sub-County, who serves as the Welfare Coordinator of the Buhunga My Heritage Association, led the mobilization and identification of vulnerable families. She thanked the Manchester United fans for being true examples of unity and cooperation. She confirmed that more than 15 households, particularly in Murama and Rutooma parishes, received support in the form of clothing, food, and household necessities.
Some of the beneficiaries who received support expressed their heartfelt appreciation while speaking to Boona Radio. These included Margaret Bendente from Buhunga Sub-County, Alice Kyoihigwe also from Buhunga, Joseline Komugisha from Butanoga Cell in Karisizo Parish, Kyomukama Clode, and Kembabazi Barbara—a widow with four children—both from Bunura Cell, Southern Division, and another widow with four children from Katenga, also in Southern Division.
They all expressed their gratitude to the Rukungiri Manchester United Fans for their kindness and prayed for God’s blessings and continued prosperity for the group.
