A total of 26.7 million shillings and 110 bags of cement were collected on Sunday during a fundraising ceremony at Nyakisoroza Church of Uganda to support the construction of staff quarters and a pupil’s latrine at Nyakisoroza Primary School in Nyakishenyi, Rukungiri District.

The fundraising event was graced by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) in charge of Traffic and Road Safety, Afande Niwabiine Lawrence, who challenged parents in the area to prioritize their children’s education as a key tool to fight ignorance and backwardness in communities.

Afande Niwabiine emphasized that education is the only sustainable way to empower children to compete nationally and live meaningful lives. He decried the growing number of parents who neglect their responsibilities, especially in supporting their children’s education, noting that such neglect is fueling ignorance in the country.

According to the head teacher of Nyakisoroza Primary School, Mr. Sabiiti Wilson Rutaaba, the school has long struggled without staff quarters, making it difficult for teachers to deliver effectively due to long commuting distances. He added that the school’s pupils’ latrine is in a dilapidated condition and is insufficient for the current student population.

Mr. Rutaaba commended AIGP Niwabiine for his efforts in mobilizing support from fellow Nyakishenyi-Kampala residents and friends, saying such commitment could significantly transform the school’s learning environment.

Meanwhile, during the sermon, the Archdeacon of Nyakishenyi Archdeaconry, Ven. Dickens Baguma, urged congregants to always support educational institutions, especially those they once attended. He praised former students of Nyakisoroza Primary School for taking the initiative to give back, saying their support would have a lasting impact.

The funds and materials collected will go towards the initial phase of constructing staff quarters and improving sanitation facilities at the school
