Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Rukungiri District, has urged couples to avoid domestic violence during the Christmas festive season, especially over the inability to afford luxuries.

Speaking in an interview with our reporter, Ongom revealed that his office receives numerous domestic violence cases, with women and children being the most affected. He warned that such cases might escalate during the festive season. Ongom reminded the public that Christmas is not about wearing new clothes or indulging in excessive food but about coming together as families to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. He urged families to avoid misunderstandings over trivial luxuries.

Additionally, Ongom cautioned those traveling from towns to their villages for Christmas to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to minimize road accidents.

Kyomukama Geoffrey, the chairperson of Rukungiri District, raised concerns about an outbreak of cattle disease that has led to the closure of animal markets in the district. He urged butchers and meat sellers to consult district veterinary officers to test animals before slaughtering them for consumption, ensuring public health and safety.

Hon. Caledonia Clare Bakironda, the District Secretary for Education, Commercial Services, and Tourism, advised parents to avoid unplanned spending during the festive season. She warned that overspending could lead to financial difficulties, including the inability to cater to basic family needs and school fees for their children.

She also urged the youth, particularly girls, to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid temptations that could jeopardize their future.
