Christians have been urged to use the Christmas season as a time of reflection and mediation with God, acknowledging the blessings they have received throughout the year.
This call was made this morning by Rev. Father Henry Barekye, the Assistant Parish Priest at Christ the King Church in Rukungiri Municipality, during a sermon to the congregation gathered for morning mass.
Drawing inspiration from the Gospel of Luke 1:22–33, Rev. Father Barekye emphasized the importance of gratitude for the good things the Almighty God has done in the past years. He encouraged Christians to use this reflection as a means of preparing themselves for salvation.
He further called on the congregation to embrace the theme, “Christmas into Perspective,” as a guide to celebrate this year’s festivities peacefully and meaningfully.
Rev. Father Barekye urged Christians to prioritize spiritual preparation by focusing on repentance, reconciliation, and forgiveness instead of becoming consumed by worldly and materialistic pursuits. He stressed that such spiritual practices would lead them away from sin and closer to God.
During the same mass, Christians participated in the sacrament of penance as an act of reconciliation and a step toward preparing their hearts for the second coming of Jesus, to be commemorated this Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
