Journalists in Rukungiri district have inaugurated the Rukungiri District Media Practitioners Association, aiming to foster unity and collaboration in their competitive field.

The association’s launch was overseen by Morrison Rwakakamba, Chairperson of the Uganda Investment Authority Board, who generously donated 4 million Ugandan shillings and five computers to establish the association’s multimedia center.

Addressing the journalists during the launch, Rwakakamba commended them for initiating the association and encouraged them to uphold truth and their core objectives while setting personal goals conducive to building a self-sustaining economy.

He suggested that forming a Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) would aid their financial development in the monetary economy. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of the multimedia project for generating income and conducting research, which could garner government support for the SACCO.

Honorable Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, the legislator for Rukungiri Municipality, lauded the journalists for their publicity efforts and urged them to adhere to professional ethics to streamline their activities. He contributed one million Ugandan shillings to the association and another million towards establishing the multimedia center.

Counsel Isaac Atukunda, Vice Chancellor of North Kigezi Diocese, stressed unity among journalists, financial independence through savings, and adherence to professional ethics. He pledged legal assistance whenever necessary and contributed 1.2 million Ugandan shillings to the association.

Prosper Tagorya, Deputy Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipality, expressed gratitude to the journalists for their efforts in cleaning the town and planting trees to preserve the environment. He donated three hundred and thirty thousand shillings.

The launch was attended by various dignitaries including Andrew Niwabiine, Rwabatongore Rweishe, Cledona Bakyirodwa, and Phionah Kaharata representing the Rukungiri District Woman MP, as well as district councilors, business community representatives, and other stakeholders.

Isaac Benard Tushabe, speaking on behalf of the association, extended appreciation to all attendees and contributors for their support towards forming the SACCO and establishing the multimedia center.
