The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Rukungiri, Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, has cautioned the Parish Development Model (PDM) Secretariat to refrain from undermining the program through internal complaints and corruption.
He made the remarks on Monday, June 2, 2025, during the opening of a one-day training workshop held at Rukungiri Municipal Council Hall. The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) in collaboration with the PDM Secretariat under the Ministry of Local Government.
The training brought together Town Agents and PDM SACCO Chairpersons, who were equipped with skills in the PTC/CBO approach, strengthening the PDM at the household level, planning and identifying business opportunities, and enterprise selection.
Ongom expressed concern over the damage to the Secretariat’s reputation, citing allegations of soliciting petty bribes, and called for an end to such practices, warning that the law would catch up with the culprits.
Rukungiri Municipal Council Town Clerk Robert Nuwamanya commended the training, noting it as a step toward reforming the Secretariat and eliminating corruption. He emphasized that the days of taking bribes under the PDM initiative were over.
Grace Tayebwa, the Principal Commercial Officer of Rukungiri Municipal Council, also welcomed the initiative and urged the participants to uphold transparency and put the acquired knowledge into practice for the success of the program.
