Prosper Tagobya, the deputy town clerk of Rukungiri, has issued a stern warning to residents of Rukungiri Municipality who engage in open defecation, urging them to cease this practice immediately to enhance the overall cleanliness of the town.
In an interview with our reporter, Tagobya appealed to the public to act responsibly and utilize the private toilets available in households or make use of the public toilets constructed by the municipality. He emphasized the importance of this initiative, especially during the current rainy season, as rainwater carries away waste and deposits it into water sources used for fetching water, posing a serious risk of disease outbreak from contaminated water.
Tagobya also cautioned homeowners, including hotels, against taking advantage of the rainy season to dispose of their toilet waste, as they would be held accountable if caught. Additionally, he encouraged residents to responsibly manage their waste by collecting garbage and holding onto it until the scheduled garbage collection trucks pass through their areas.
