Rukungiri District Council has resolved to start collecting rent from District officials who reside in district houses as another source of revenue to maintain these houses.

The resolution was made on Tuesday during a council meeting organized to approve the 2023/2024 financial year budget at the district council hall.
The resolution came after the District Executive Committee report read by the leader of district business and also the district Vice Chairperson Nahwera Santurina recommended this will help the district to get revenue to facilitate the 2023/2024 financial year budget.
The District Councilor representing Buyanja sub-county Albert Mugisha Rwamugaata noted that these people occupy big spaces for free yet they are the top earners in the district.

The Councilor representing Western Division also Member of the District Executive Committee Byarugaba Micheal okayed commended the council for the resolution noting that the district has been maintaining these houses without returns from them.

The Rukungiri LCV Chairperson Kyomukama Geoffrey said that though the resolution was passed, the houses are dilapidated.

He challenged the resolution as it might destabilize district workers hence affecting service delivery.
