Rukiga District Vice Chairperson Samuel Niwandinda has protested his removal from office, accusing District Chairperson Mbabazi Robert Kakwerere of acting out of anger and disregarding the district council.
In a letter dated February 5th, Chairperson Kakwerere informed the district speaker of Niwandinda’s removal, directing him to hand over office to the Chief Administrative Officer. Kakwerere cited insubordination and violation of the oath of allegiance as reasons for the dismissal.
When contacted by our reporter, Niwandinda, who also serves as the councilor representing Rwamucucu Sub-county and the Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Administration, criticized Kakwerere’s decision. Speaking over the phone, he described the move as improper and disrespectful to the district council.
Niwandinda argued that since his appointment was presented and approved by the district council, his removal should follow the same procedure and require approval by three-quarters of the council members. He further claimed that Kakwerere’s decision was politically motivated, alleging that it stemmed from his declared intention to contest against him in the next elections.
He insisted that he would not hand over the office to the Chief Administrative Officer, stating that the decision should first be reflected in official district council minutes.
