Residents of Kitongo and Rwencende cells in Rutugunda Parish, Kirima Sub-County, are raising concerns over a worsening water crisis.

According to LC1 Chairperson Tugumisirize Enock, locals are being forced to fetch water from distant and contaminated rivers filled with algae and spirogyra. They are now calling on leaders to urgently address the issue before it worsens.

David Turyagyenda, the LC2 Chairperson of Rutugunda Parish, notes that in addition to the water crisis, some villages are also experiencing electricity shortages.

Meanwhile, Kirima Sub-County LC3 Chairperson Kamahanga David says he has been engaging Kanungu District authorities regarding these challenges. He highlights that several villages, including Rwentondo in Kihanda Sub-County and Rwencende in Kirima Sub-County, have lost their water sources. However, he remains hopeful that if the district prioritizes the issue, the water supply can be restored.

Kamahanga further adds that residents of Migyera, Kashaki, and Ruheza are struggling with both water and electricity shortages, calling for government intervention. He emphasizes that the sub-county has repeatedly written to the district authorities and is awaiting action.

Locals report that the lack of water is significantly impacting their daily lives, forcing them to walk long distances, sleep late, and even risk their health by consuming unsafe water.

Authorities are now being urged to step in and provide lasting solutions to these pressing challenges.
