Nyakibale Upper Boarding Primary School in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, was filled with joy, happiness, and celebration as pupils, parents, and staff gathered to honor the school’s exceptional performance in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

According to the results, out of 146 candidates who sat for the exams, 102 achieved first grade, while 44 attained second grade. To recognize their hard work and success, the best-performing pupils were rewarded with essential items such as mattresses, bedsheets, and blankets to support them in their next level of education.

Milet Atuhaire, the candidates’ representative and head girl of the 2024 class, expressed gratitude to parents, teachers, and the school administration for their unwavering support, including providing exams and tests that contributed to their success.

Bruno Mugisha, the headteacher, expressed his immense gratitude, stating that this was the school’s best performance ever, making them the top performers in the entire district. He commended the pupils for their hard work, the teachers for their dedication, and the parents for their continuous support.

He also advised the 2024 candidates to maintain the same spirit of hard work in their next schools and continue striving for excellence. Additionally, he highlighted the school’s current enrollment, which stands at 582 boys and 641 girls, totaling 1,223 pupils. He extended his appreciation to parents for entrusting the school with their children and providing them with the necessary support.

However, Mugisha pointed out several challenges hindering the school’s development, including water scarcity, insufficient infrastructure, and the high cost of electricity. He appealed to well-wishers and responsible authorities to address these issues to ensure the school continues to excel.

Honorable Mary Paula Turyahikayo, the former Member of Parliament for Rubabo and an aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District, also attended the function. She commended parents for enrolling their children in large numbers, which contributed to the school’s success.

She further praised the government for introducing the Universal Primary Education (UPE) program, noting that it has significantly reduced illiteracy. She cited Nyakibale Upper Boarding Primary School as a shining example of how UPE schools can achieve academic excellence.

Turyahikayo encouraged parents to continue supporting their children by providing the necessary resources, as these play a crucial role in their academic success. She also advised the pupils to embrace three key pillars—prayer, hard work, and discipline—as the foundation for a bright future.

Vanansio Mpiirwe, the manager of Centenary Bank Rukungiri Branch and an alumnus of the school, served as the guest of honor. He acknowledged that since the school’s establishment, it had never achieved such a remarkable number of high-performing candidates.

Mpiirwe urged the candidates not to relax after completing Primary Seven, reminding them that higher levels of education still lie ahead. He also encouraged teachers to go beyond the academic curriculum and equip pupils with practical life skills to help them navigate daily life successfully.
