Police in Rubirizi District have launched an investigation into the death of a 32-year-old woman who was strangled.

The incident occurred on May 17, 2024, in Kikonjo Cell, Katerera Ward, Katerera Town Council, Rubirizi District. Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Lyoce Ninsiima, 32, a resident of the aforementioned address.

Tumusiime also identified the suspect as Amon Twesigye, 30, a Mukiga, builder, and husband of the deceased, residing at the same address.

It was initially reported that on May 17, 2024, around 5:00 PM, Ninsiima was suspected of having committed suicide by ingesting poison and was found dead on her bed. The case was reported to the Kateera police as a suspected suicide. However, a post-mortem examination conducted at the crime scene revealed that Ninsiima had died of cardiac arrest secondary to strangulation.

According to reports, the couple had a history of domestic violence in their marital home. The deceased had left home for three days and returned on the day of the incident.
