Police in Rubirizi District are investigating circumstances under which a 44-year-old woman drowned in the Kyambura River and died.
Marcial Tumusiime the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson identified the deceased as a Jackline Kyomuzobe peasant and resident of Butoha 1 village, Butoha parish, Magambo sub-county Rubirizi district.
He said the incident happened on river Kyambura, at Kaberengye B village, Kikumbo parish, Kirugu sub-county, Rubirizi district.
It’s alleged that on 13th September 2023, the deceased was at her home harvesting coffee and she received a phone call from a woman called Valencia from the Omuruhita trading center informing her that she should take coffee to the same center for sale as it was being bought at 1000=.
The deceased informed the daughter-in-law where she was going and promised to return home with a fish for sauce.
From then the deceased didn’t return home and the family members got concerned and made a report of disappearance at Nyakasharu police station.
The hunt for the deceased commenced and one shoe of the deceased was found in the bar of one Valencia, recovered, and taken to Nyakasharu police station.
The body of the deceased was later seen along Kyambura river at Zuba dam by the operators there at around 10:00 pm and a report was made at Kirugu police station.
