The 35th Battalion’s Political commissar in Kisoro District, Lieutenant Omita Kenan has expressed the need for more conservationists in the district to save people from being hit by natural calamities.

According to Lt Omita, once the district recruits more conservationists, residents, and Property in the district will be saved from being hit by floods, Landslides, and environmental degradation.

Lt Omita made this appeal on Saturday while receiving over 1,000 Grevillea trees worth 10 million shillings donated by the Nyanamo Community Conservation and Development organization to Kateriteri Army Barracks in a bid to promote conservation in the district.

Kateriteri Army barracks is one of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ detachments in Kisoro district under the 35th infantry battalion in Nyakabande.

Lt Omita commended the Nyanamo community conservation and development organization for championing conservation activities in the district and its close partnership with the UPDF.

The trees were delivered by the Nyanamo community conservation and Development organisation’s chair Duhimbaze Ramech and were received by the 35th battalion second in command, Major Bosco Aguzo, and Lieutenant Omita Kenan, UPDF political commissar for Kisoro district.

Duhimbaze said that his organization supports and helps the government in creating a favorable ecosystem for everyone through the restoration of green cover.

He also cited the organization’s plans to champion a district-wide tree-planting exercise to tackle landslide tendencies that escalate during rainy seasons.
