Rubabo County MP, Hon. Naboth Namanya, has responded to growing concerns over power and water scarcity in the area.

The response follows an appeal made by Boona FM and Broad Educational Consult Director Mr. Maanige Wenceslas during the burial of Matsiko Ambrose in Rwenkuriijo, Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District.

Addressing mourners, Mr. Maanige raised alarm over frequent electricity outages affecting local businesses, forcing many to rely on standby generators.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon during the burial of the late Matsiko Ambrose, held at Rwenkuriijo in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District. The burial ceremony was attended by hundreds of mourners, including religious leaders, local government officials, and politicians.

While addressing the mourners, Mr. Maanige Wenceslas expressed deep concern over the ongoing electricity scarcity and frequent power shedding in the area. He stated that the irregular electricity supply has negatively impacted local businesses, with many business owners forced to resort to standby generators due to unreliable power.

Mr. Maanige further noted that some areas in Buyanja are facing not only electricity problems but also severe water shortages. He called upon all responsible leaders to focus on delivering essential development services to lift people out of poverty. He emphasized that leaders should prioritize these community needs, which are the very reasons they were elected to office.

In response, Hon. Naboth Namanya acknowledged Mr. Maanige’s message and appreciated him for highlighting such vital concerns. He affirmed that it is indeed his duty as an MP to advocate for and bring development services to the constituency, particularly better roads, electricity, clean water, healthcare, and other essential amenities. He emphasized that such services can be achieved through the efforts of serious, honest, and patriotic leaders.

Expressing his frustration, Hon. Naboth criticized the recent move by the government and Parliament to request a loan of UGX 4 trillion, from which UGX 400 billion (10%) was allegedly gifted to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for personal spending. He also condemned fellow MPs who received UGX 100 million, suggesting that the same funds could have been used to develop communities instead.

Hon. Naboth concluded by urging Ugandans to seek out serious and honest leaders instead of electing those only interested in personal gain. He reiterated his commitment to advocating for better services and informed the congregation that three transformers—including those for Nyakiina and Rwashamiire—have already been delivered by the government. However, he also criticized the ongoing electricity shedding despite these developments.
