Retired Lieutenant General Henry Tumukunde has come out strongly to deny allegations that his campaign agents were involved in acts of violence in Rukungiri Municipality, describing the accusations as “baseless, politically motivated lies aimed at tarnishing his image and derailing his vision for development-oriented leadership.”
Speaking to our reporter this morning before heading to the NRM Secretariat to pick up nomination forms to show interest in the Rukungiri municipality seat, Gen. Tumukunde said the claims that his team beat residents during a recent political mobilization are the latest in a string of smear tactics designed by political opponents who feel threatened by his growing popularity.
“These are deliberate, coordinated political attacks fueled by fear. My enemies have resorted to using security officials to spin false narratives. They want to paint me as violent and unapproachable, which is completely false. I am a disciplined, law-abiding Ugandan who has served this country with honor, and I will not be shaken by cheap politics,” Tumukunde said.
He emphasized that neither he nor any of his campaign agents condone violence of any kind and urged the people of Rukungiri to treat the allegations as part of a larger plot to weaken his momentum as he seeks to represent Rukungiri Municipality in Parliament come 2026.
“I have come into the politics of Rukungiri not to fight people, but to fight poverty, poor service delivery, and the continued marginalization of our youth and women. My record speaks for itself – I am here to bring change through development, not confusion and division,” he added.
Tumukunde, who has built a reputation as a reformist and strategic thinker, reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful campaigns and inclusive leadership. He said his vision for Rukungiri Municipality is centered on creating jobs, improving infrastructure, strengthening education and healthcare services, and empowering the business community.
“Rukungiri deserves a new chapter – one that focuses on action, not words. I am committed to working with every resident, regardless of political affiliation, because development knows no party,” the General stated.
He further called on security agencies to remain neutral and professional, warning against being used as tools of political manipulation.
“Our security forces should not be dragged into petty political wars. They are meant to serve and protect all Ugandans equally. I caution those trying to abuse their positions to manufacture cases against me or my team – the people are watching,” Tumukunde warned.
Several of his supporters have also come out to dismiss the allegations, describing Tumukunde as a “humble leader with a strong moral compass” whose interest in politics is driven by a deep desire to transform the lives of ordinary Ugandans.
As the 2026 elections approach, Rtd. Gen. Tumukunde continues to attract wide support, especially among the youth, business owners, and civil society leaders who view him as a credible alternative and a symbol of progressive change in Rukungiri’s political landscape.
