Territorial police in Rukiga District have launched investigations into the gruesome murder of a 35-year-old woman identified as Nkanshabe Evelyn, also known as Shamirah or Kyarenga, a bar attendant and resident of Rwabahanze Cell, Muhanga Town Council.
According to preliminary reports, Nkanshabe was allegedly murdered on the night of June 2, 2025, in Rubare Town Council, Ntungamo District under unclear circumstances.
It is alleged that on Monday evening at around 10:00 PM, the deceased received a phone call from her boyfriend identified only as Brian, who reportedly lured her with a promise to buy her alcohol (buzz). She left her home and never returned.
Concerned by her unexplained absence, Nkanshabe’s relatives reported a case of disappearance to Muhanga Police Station. Tragically, her lifeless body was discovered the following day along a roadside in Rubare Town Council, where it was recovered by police and transferred to Itojo Hospital Mortuary in Ntungamo District for postmortem.
A case file has since been opened at Rukiga Police Station. Joint investigations involving detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Traffic Police, and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) from both Ntungamo and Rukiga are underway.
Police are calling on members of the public with any information that may assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible to come forward and aid the ongoing investigation.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown as inquiries continue.
