Residents of Nyakyera Town Council in Ntungamo District have expressed concerns over the deteriorating condition of the road connecting Kashoro and Ngomba. They report that the road is now in poor shape, severely affecting the transportation of people, goods, and services.
Additionally, two critical bridges along this route have collapsed, making it impassable and hindering farmers from transporting their agricultural produce to market centers.
Seith Ruzira, a local resident, emphasized the importance of this road, as it serves as the main route for people from Kashoro to access services at Ngomba Health Center. He urged the authorities to address the issue promptly, highlighting the road’s significance in the daily lives of the community.
Nyakyera Town Council Mayor, Nganwa Kenneth Rubatuhura, confirmed the situation, noting that the collapse of Bururuma Bridge and Nyakasharara Bridge has rendered the road impassable, disrupting the transportation of people, goods, and services. However, he clarified that the road falls under the jurisdiction of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and that it is the responsibility of the central government to carry out repairs.
Mayor Rubatuhura attributed the bridge failures to poor drainage, which causes rainwater to stagnate on the roads, weakening the structures and leading to the development of potholes. He mentioned that despite raising concerns with the relevant authorities, there has been no response. He urged residents to remain patient, assuring them that he will continue to engage with other authorities to seek a solution to this pressing issue.
