Residents of Magoma Cell, Nyeibingo Parish, Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, are united in their efforts to apprehend a man identified as Derick, in order to bring him to justice.
Derick, who is in his early 30s and known to be a drug addict, is the son of Jackson Turyahabwe from the same area. He is accused of stabbing Vicky Atuhaire, 30, causing a severe injury to her left breast.
The incident allegedly occurred last evening around 8 PM at Omubwehindiriro Trading Center. Derick reportedly had a disagreement with his cousin, Moses Mwebuze, 26, which led him to pull out a knife from his pocket. He missed Moses and instead stabbed Vicky, who was nearby.
Vicky Atuhaire, a mother of two, was quickly taken to a clinic in Mabanga Trading Center and then referred to Nyakibale Hospital for proper medical care. She was discharged the following morning. Vicky explained that she had gone to Omubwehindiriro Trading Center for shopping and was accidentally caught up in the altercation, prompting her to seek medical treatment before filing a report.
Moses Mwebuze stated that Derick harbored animosity towards him after being expelled from Moses’ house. Eva Komugisha, Derick’s stepmother and a mother of four, emphasized that Derick became a burden after moving out from his mother’s care following her divorce from Jackson Turyahabwe. Karuma Onesmus, a cousin of both parties, mentioned that the disagreements began when Derick was barred from using the family land, condemning Derick’s possession of a machete.
Mzee Charles Kahanyi, the Chairperson of LC3 Kebisoni Sub County, advised the community to work together to arrest Derick and hand him over to the authorities, urging them to avoid mob justice.
