Residents of Rukoni East Subcounty in Ruhaama East County, Ntungamo District, are expressing serious concerns about the poor condition of roads in their area, which they claim is significantly impeding the transportation of people, goods, and services.
According to the residents, since the onset of the rainy season, they have been facing considerable difficulties moving from one place to another due to the deteriorating state of the roads.
Elias Muhereza, a coffee trader residing in Bihiri village, emphasized the challenges they encounter in transporting agricultural products to markets in Rwoho, Kitwe, and other locations. He urged authorities to take immediate action to address this issue, attributing the problem to the negligence of local leaders who seem indifferent to their plight.
Muhereza disclosed that despite raising concerns with district authorities, they were advised to endure the situation until July, which he deemed unacceptable given the worsening conditions.
Vasta Ngabirano, another resident, highlighted the struggles faced by women in accessing essential services, particularly maternal health care, due to the impassable roads in their area.
Efforts to reach the Rukoni East chairperson, Mr. Steven Bamwiine, for comment were unsuccessful as his phone was unavailable at the time of compiling this news report.
