Benon Mugisha, the chairperson of Buhunga sub-county, emphasized the importance of parents selecting secondary schools for their children based on their abilities rather than simply exchanging schools. He stressed that such decisions could adversely affect students’ performance, particularly under the new curriculum.

Mugisha made these comments on Thursday during an event honoring the top-performing 2023 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) pupils at Omurusheshe Primary School, a government-assisted institution in Buhunga Sub County, Rukungiri district.

He noted the rarity and significance of a government-assisted school achieving excellent results, such as attaining first grades, which is not common nationwide. Mugisha urged parents to consistently support their children’s education, especially as they transition to secondary school, as education represents the most valuable gift parents can give their children for a prosperous future.

Emmanuel Musinguzi Kirakurate, the head teacher of Omurusheshe Primary School, highlighted their consistent academic performance in PLE. He stated that rewarding the school’s success serves as motivation for other students to strive for excellence.

Kirakurate encouraged incoming secondary school students to work hard and maintain discipline to sustain the school’s academic success.

Beston Amanya and Penelope Tukamushaba, both of whom scored 6 aggregates in the PLE, advised current primary seven candidates to prioritize studying and seek guidance from their teachers to excel academically.

As a government school, Omurusheshe Primary School endeavored to secure nine candidates in Division 1, with two students scoring aggregate 6 in the 2023 PLE examinations, along with 51 candidates in Division 2. The school awarded mattresses to these high-achieving students as a token of appreciation for their dedication, wishing them success in their future educational endeavors.
