Residents of Nyabitete Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District, on Saturday, 8th February 2025, rehabilitated Kyeshoro Bridge to sustain the transport network.
Kyeshoro Bridge, made of timber, is located at the boundary between Rukungiri Municipality in Kanyinya Ward and Buyanja Sub County in Nyabitete Parish.
Residents, through communal work, mobilized materials and cleared the connecting road from Buhandagazi Trading Center near the new Sub County headquarters under construction. Their efforts aimed to improve the transport of goods and services, facilitate student movement, and ensure safe passage for all travelers.
Jennifer Tusingwire expressed enthusiasm for the successful voluntary work, emphasizing that it will help prevent accidents and drowning incidents on the bridge. She also appreciated Rukungiri Municipal Council for renovating their side of the bridge.
Erinumu Tumusime, the Nyabitete Parish Defense Councilor, appealed to the Sub County authorities to construct a permanent bridge and provide a grader to improve the connecting road. He noted that the current state of the bridge and road is beyond what communal work can handle.
Molly Butendere, the Nyabitete Parish Woman Councilor, raised concerns over the high number of travelers using Kyeshoro Bridge for socio-economic activities, yet the bridge lacks proper maintenance.
Charles Karahukayo, the Nyabitete Parish Councilor, commended residents for their overwhelming turnout and dedication. He, however, lamented that despite presenting the issue to the Sub County Council, the request for renovation was hindered by a lack of funds. He encouraged the community to maintain their efforts for sustainability.
Gideon Turyamubugana, the Rukungiri Municipal Councilor for Kanyinya Ward, applauded the residents’ work and revealed that the Rukungiri Municipal Council engineer has assured them that Kyeshoro Bridge will be renovated within this financial year.
