Residents of Nyakinengo Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri district, have expressed their discontent over the deteriorating condition of their roads and bridges, adversely affecting service delivery in the area.

The affected routes include the Rwendahi road leading to Kanungu, Kamuzinzi Bridge, and Rukungiri-Kigaaga road, among others. These routes are crucial for transporting goods to market centers and facilitating access to essential services such as healthcare and education.

Byaruhanga Lawrence, the councilor of Nyakinengo parish, voiced his frustration with the district authorities for the prolonged delay in renovating these roads, especially considering that the district had received 1 billion from the central government for this purpose.

Despite the district officials citing heavy rains as a hindrance to the renovation efforts, Lawrence urged them to expedite the process now that the rainy season has subsided, emphasizing the importance of smooth road networks for effective service delivery and preventing potential loss of lives.

Karekaho Deus, the chairperson of LC 1 in Rugunda cell, Nyakinengo, called upon the district to dispatch a tractor to address the road conditions in their area. He highlighted the significance of these roads in transporting agricultural produce to market centers, as well as the local production of Waragi, an alcoholic beverage.

Deus underscored how the poor road conditions have led to a decline in the value of agricultural products, citing an example of bananas, which were previously valued at shs.15,000 but are now sold for shs.5,000, resulting in losses for the farmers.
