As the completion of the Kanungu-Kihihi-Ishasha-Rukungiri Tarmac Road upgrade approaches, it currently stands at 98% completion. However, there are lingering complaints, particularly from individuals residing near the road.

These complaints include issues such as lack of compensation, inadequate compensation for additional land use, drainage channels causing damage to homes and gardens, and insufficient access roads to homes and institutions, among others. The Kanungu district roads committee, led by Hon. James Kaberuka, conducted a tour to assess the progress of the road works and documented these grievances.

Hon. James Kaberuka assured that these concerns have been duly noted and will be addressed before the project’s handover. Similarly, RDC Ambrose Mwesigye acknowledged the receipt of complaints and stated that they are actively engaging with UNRA and the contractor to resolve them.

Despite the majority of the road works being completed, there are still some pending tasks, particularly concerning various town roads and the Ishasha Bridge.

Regarding the complaints, Eng Micheal Akankwasa, the project manager from UNRA, mentioned that most of them have been addressed, with compensation issues being resolved. He clarified that although there were instances of bounced payments, the funds are now with UNRA. Additionally, he informed affected institutions that their compensation money has been deposited in the consolidated fund, where they can claim it through the appropriate procedures.
