Residents of Mugobwa, Bikokora, and Mwumba in Nkuringo town council, Bukimbiri County, Kisoro District, continue to live without electricity, despite the efforts of their Member of Parliament, Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wa-Gahungu, to fulfill his promise of supplying power to the area.
During his visit to Bikokora village on May 13, 2024, as part of his tour of Bukimbiri County, Hon. Wa-Gahungu assured residents that he would work with relevant authorities to expedite the electricity supply, as the wiring had been completed.
However, locals, speaking during an impromptu visit by a reporter, confirmed that while the wiring had been completed, they remained uncertain about accessing power in their homes. Mujanama Jack, a local leader in Bikokora village, expressed gratitude to Hon. Wa-Gahungu but stressed the importance of educating residents on utilizing electricity.
Retired Reverend Mbereye Christopher, from Mugobwa cell, welcomed the electricity connection, noting its potential to drive development. However, he also called for compensation for those whose properties were damaged during the wiring process.
Mutome Milton, speaking to the reporter, highlighted the barrier of high costs preventing many from extending electricity connections to their homes. He urged the government to provide support, such as free connections, to residents.
