Residents of Rwanyondo Parish in Nyakishenyi Sub-county, Rukungiri District, have voiced their dissatisfaction with the Nyakishenyi Sub-county Council for failing to lobby for a health facility in their area, jeopardizing the health and lives of local patients.
The residents disclosed that the council had initially planned to build a Health Center II in Bugoro Cell, Rwanyondo Parish, and requested the community to provide land for the construction.
Alex Kensi, a resident, shared that the community organized themselves and each family contributed 25,000 shillings, collectively raising over four million shillings to purchase the land for the facility.
However, despite acquiring the land in early 2023, the residents have been waiting in vain for the sub-county officials to visit the site and commence construction. Over a year has passed with no action, leaving the community feeling let down and hopeless.
Kensi also highlighted the dire situation faced by pregnant women, who often give birth on the way to hospitals due to the distance. The nearest medical facilities, Nyakisoroza Health Center III and Kisiizi Hospital, are too far for timely access.
He urged the sub-county officials to honor their commitment and lobby for the construction of a health facility as promised, emphasizing that the residents had complied with the council’s request by purchasing the land.
