Residents of Burama Parish, Bugangari Subcounty in Rukungiri District, are decrying the poor state of the Kagaati-Bikurungu road.

It is reported that this road has not been worked on for years, making it difficult for the community to access various services.

Speaking to our reporter, Justus Bagachwa, a resident of Kagaati Cell, said road conditions in Bugangari are generally poor, highlighting that the Kagaati-Bikurungu road has greatly deteriorated, especially after the heavy rains.

He further said that people avoid traveling during the rainy season, which has hindered development in the area. He called upon leaders to improve the road network.

Hildah Ainembabazi, another resident, raised concerns that the situation worsens during the rainy season, especially affecting school children and traders. She explained that transporting goods from Bikurungu to Kagaati becomes expensive due to the road’s poor condition.

She further urged leaders to visit the area themselves when campaigning for votes, rather than sending agents who fail to report the real challenges faced by the people.

Lazaro Ngambe, another resident, said the worst section of the road is near Kabeshekyere Trading Centre and from Bikurungu Town Council. He noted that while they used to carry out communal work, it has become ineffective, making transportation very difficult, especially after rain.

He urged the government, through local leaders, to repair the road, noting that its condition is very poor.

However, speaking to the LC3 Chairperson of Bugangari Subcounty, Jaston Byamukama said their main challenge is inadequate funding for road works. He explained that despite having many roads and bridges to work on, the subcounty receives little money and operates with only one grader.

He confirmed to the community that the Kagaati-Bikurungu road is part of the five-year development plan, and once funds are available, the road will be worked on.
