Residents of Garubunda and Nyeibingo Parishes in Kebisoni Sub County, Rukungiri District, have expressed frustration over neglecting a vital road under the Sub County’s jurisdiction.

The road, which branches from the Kebisoni-Omukagashe main road near Omuribiri Trading Center, passes through Omukijurabusha Bridge and extends to Kanywa Bridge at the boundary of Kebisoni and Buyanja Sub Counties, has been deteriorating, causing significant hardship.

Gorreti Mucunguzi, a mother from the area, highlighted the challenges expectant mothers face when accessing health facilities and the difficulty in transporting agricultural produce. She called for urgent intervention from the authorities.

Fulgensi Gumisiriza, an elderly resident of Kitenga Cell, lamented the poor transport and communication infrastructure, which has negatively impacted the local economy, including fishing sites along the valley roads.

Frank Ngabirano, a retired police surgeon, emphasized the need for expert engineers to plan the road’s rehabilitation, underscoring the importance of a strong technical approach to addressing the issue.

James Bakesigaki, a staff member at Kebisoni Seed Secondary School, reiterated the challenges students face in accessing the school due to the poor state of the road.

Frank Mabwa, the Nyeibingo Parish Councilor, noted that the road was last rehabilitated during the 2011–2016 financial year. He attributed the current state of disrepair to insufficient road funds and stressed the need for marram and strong drainage channels. Mabwa also encouraged residents to embrace communal work to address the issue.

Mzee Charles Kahanyi, the LC3 Chairperson of Kebisoni Sub County, acknowledged the problem, attributing it to a lack of funds and an inadequate supply of graders. He, however, assured residents that the road’s rehabilitation is under consideration.
