The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Rukungiri, Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, has called on young patriots to apply the knowledge and skills acquired through training to promote peace, unity, and national development rather than violence.
He made the remarks on Sunday, 29th June 2025, during the official passing out ceremony of 311 students from Senior One and Senior Four at Makobore High School Kinyasano in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality. The students had successfully completed a week-long patriotism course focused on community security awareness and civic responsibility.
RDC Bewayo emphasized that the training, which included parade drills, financial literacy, hygiene and sanitation, and public administration, is aimed at nurturing future citizens of integrity. He warned against misusing the knowledge and skills gained to destabilize communities, urging the youth to be ambassadors of peace and discipline.
Vital Bashasha, the District Patriotism Coordinator, encouraged the students to respect and work with professional security agencies, noting that patriotism requires understanding one’s role in fostering national security without undermining the work of formal institutions.
Denis Mwesigwa Bakwitse, the Deputy Head Teacher of Makobore High School, commended the government for improving school infrastructure and called for support in providing necessary patriotism training equipment to further motivate students.
In response, Bashasha assured that efforts are underway to address the issue of equipment and that responses to various inquiries raised during the training would be provided soon.
One of the participants, Dismas Cadet Akankwatsa, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying the training had empowered them with practical skills, discipline, and the courage to serve and defend their country with pride.
The program is part of a national effort to instill patriotism among Ugandan youth and build a generation committed to national service and unity.
