The Resident District Commissioner of Rukungiri, Nsubuga Bewayo Steven, has called upon political leaders to uphold decency in their electoral processes to foster peace and national unity after elections.

Speaking on Saturday, 21st June 2025, during the installation ceremony of Ms. Sophia Turyabagyenyi as the 17th President of the Rotary Club of Rukungiri Central, RDC Bewayo emphasized the importance of embracing fair and peaceful campaigns. The event was held at Rukungiri Inn in the Eastern Division of Rukungiri Municipality and was graced by several dignitaries, with Bewayo representing Hon. Minister Jim Muhwezi Katugugu.

He encouraged the public to actively participate in Rotary Club activities, which not only provide a valuable social network but also offer an opportunity to serve the less fortunate, promoting peace, unity, and development within the community.

Counsel Isaac Atukunda, a dedicated member of Rotary Club International, used the platform to highlight key challenges hindering decent elections, including threats, physical confrontations, and post-election disputes. He urged the club members to be ambassadors of harmony and take pride in the beauty and transformation of Rukungiri Municipality.

Newly installed President Sophia Turyabagyenyi outlined her vision for the year, focusing on supporting educational initiatives, especially for children with disabilities, promoting girl-child welfare, and improving hygiene and sanitation in communities.

The event also featured remarks from businessman Lawrence Kashumbusha, who urged more people to join Rotary Club for its noble mission of community service, emphasizing the value of humility and collective effort in uplifting the needy.

The ceremony marked a significant moment in Rukungiri’s civic calendar, echoing calls for integrity, service, and peace as the political season approaches.
