Rotarian Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), has urged committees overseeing SACCOs to separate personal relationships from SACCO activities that contribute to their decline.

He made the appeal on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, while representing Hon. Minister Jim Muhwezi Katugugu as the chief guest at the 21st Annual General Meeting of Rwenshaka SACCO in Ruhinda Sub County, Rukungiri District.

Steven Nsubuga Bewayo attributed the decline of SACCOs to the recruitment of unqualified relatives and greedy workers who engage in fraudulent activities. He urged oversight committees to address these challenges.

Keith Ainebyoona, the Rukungiri District Commissioner Officer, commended the dedication of Rwenshaka SACCO workers and urged members to embrace key performance indicators of development, namely saving, buying shares, and prompt loan repayment.

Hellen Kabajungu, the LC3 Chairperson of Ruhinda Sub County, lamented that Rwenshaka SACCO had previously declined due to past committees misusing funds. She called on the current Board to address the issues.

Henry Mugarura, the National Coordinator for SACCOs and the Parish Development Model (PDM), expressed gratitude for the SACCO’s performance despite challenges such as a poor saving culture, loan defaulting, and multiple borrowing. He called for more support to ensure steady progress.
