Members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), aspiring to transition to the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Rukungiri District, celebrated Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s 69th birthday on Tuesday with a call for public prayers for his freedom.
They organized a walk that started from the party offices along Rubabo Road, proceeded to the Roundabout, then to Republic Road, Karegyesa Road, and back to the office, where a birthday cake was sliced and shared publicly.
Ms. Ingrid Turinawe Kamateneti, an FDC founder, expressed gratitude for the celebrations, highlighting Dr. Besigye’s safe deportation from abduction in Kenya, his continued life despite allegations of being tortured and metaphorically “hung on the cross,” and the need to advocate for his freedom, as he is believed to be innocent.
Hon. Betty Bamukwatsa Muzanira, the former District Woman Member of Parliament, noted that the birthday was organized to commemorate Dr. Besigye’s 69th birthday and to promote awareness about his voluntary struggle to change the regime, as well as highlight what he calls an “independent prison.”
Aloysius Mugarura, chairperson of FDC/PFF Rukungiri, emphasized the importance of celebrating Dr. Besigye’s journey, having survived numerous attacks by police, including being sprayed with red pepper. He urged the public to continue praying for Dr. Besigye’s freedom.
