The police in Kabale District have issued a warning against individuals impersonating traffic officers and extorting money from motorists and boda boda riders along the Kiyoora section of the Bunyonyi Road and the Kabale-Katuna Road.

Reports indicate that these individuals, disguised in traffic police uniforms, have been stopping road users and demanding payments ranging from 70,000 to 90,000 Ugandan Shillings, particularly for offenses such as missing driving permits and overloading. No receipts are provided for these payments.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed awareness of the fraudulent activities and assured the public that measures are underway to apprehend the culprits.

Maate urged the public to report such incidents directly to the police rather than posting them on social media, emphasizing that proper reporting is essential for resolving the issue.

He further stated that the suspects, once arrested, will be prosecuted and face the full extent of the law.
