Police in Ntungamo District is investigating circumstances under which one block containing two male dormitories of Nyerere and Mandela at Kyamate secondary school in Ntungamo district were gutted by fire at around 9:00PM in the night of 26/02/2023 killing one student Atukwatse Bonus 13 and injuring three others.
Police identified the injured three as Marvin Nuwenyesiga, Isaiah Ajjuna and Amanya Lisbon who were rushed to Doctor Bedas Clinic in Ntungamo Town where they are admitted.
The block houses 146 students of Senior One whose property worth millions was destroyed including books,suitcases,mattresses, clothes and the roof of the structure
The Police Fire and Rescue services responded and was able to contain the fire stopping it from spreading to other buildings
The body of the deceased student was taken to Itojo hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem
Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region police spokesman says preliminary findings pointed at suspected arson by use of petrol and four students have been arrested in connection with the crime;
He identified the suspects as Kanyesingye Odongo Odmaro, Arinaitwe Anthony,-Tumwesigye Arnold,-and Arinaitwe Elija
