Police in Kabale District are investigating a suspected murder after the body of a young man was discovered in a forest in Keirungu Village, Birambo Parish, Maziba Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Ahereza Eliot, a man in his late 20s and an unemployed resident of Kasirima Village in Maziba Parish. The discovery was made by Turyasingura Edinavance, a local resident who had gone to the forest to collect firewood.

According to police reports, Turyasingura spotted a man lying on his back with a rope tied to his right hand and a knife resting on his chest. Alarmed, she quickly informed people working in a nearby garden. The group verified the scene and subsequently notified the LC1 chairperson, who escalated the matter to Maziba Police Station.

The Officer in Charge of Maziba Police Station registered the case and alerted the District Criminal Investigations Officer (CID) for Kabale, D/SP Mukama Hakim. Police officers visited the scene, retrieved the body, and transported it to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Police spokesperson for Kigezi region, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and stated that no arrests have been made yet. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend the suspects.

The case highlights growing concerns about security in the area. Police have called upon residents to report any information that could aid in the investigation.
