Police in Kabale are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was attacked by unknown assailants in the early hours of the morning in Kabale Municipality.

The incident occurred at Igabiro Cell, Mwanjari Ward in the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality. The deceased has been identified as Mandela Martin, an adult male of Mukiga origin.

According to police, the incident was reported by Onorinawe Janvier, a 34-year-old teacher and resident of the same area. It is alleged that Mr. Onorinawe had earlier taken his brother, Mandela Martin, to a bar for leisure before leaving him there. At around 2:50 a.m., the deceased left the bar heading home when he was allegedly attacked and cut on the head by unknown assailants.

Neighbours who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and found Mandela Martin lying on the ground, bleeding profusely. One of the neighbours, identified as Miguel Innocent, alerted the deceased’s brother, who immediately responded and rushed him to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say no suspect has been identified so far, as no one was seen at the scene of the crime.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kigezi Region, ASP Maate Elly, said inquiries have commenced to establish the motive behind the killing and to identify those responsible.

The body of the deceased remains at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Police have appealed to the public to provide any information that may help in the investigations.
