Police in Bushenyi District have launched investigations into the death of a 24-year-old woman who allegedly took her own life by poisoning.
The tragic incident occurred on January 25, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Bushenyi Medical Centre in Byatoogo Cell, Central Ward, Central Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Jenet Tunyumize, a slot machine attendant and a resident of Kibira, Mitooma District.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased was in a romantic relationship with Police Constable No. 69283, PC Ssenge William, who is attached to Bushenyi Police Station.
According to reports, the couple had a disagreement on the morning of January 25, 2025, after the deceased suspected her boyfriend of being involved with another woman.
Following the altercation, Tunyumize left the house and went to Bushenyi town. She later returned home and locked herself inside the room, leaving her boyfriend outside.
Moments later, when PC Ssenge entered the house, he found her unconscious and detected a strong odor from her vomit, suspected to be poison. He rushed her to Bushenyi Medical Centre for treatment, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
