A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday night at approximately 9:50 PM in Karoni Cell, Nyamirama Sub-County, near Legends Bar Executive along the Nyamirama-Ishasha road. The accident involved two motorcycles, resulting in the death of one rider and leaving another seriously injured.
Both Bajaj Boxers’ motorcycles were identified with registration numbers UGH 046X and UGH 047P. The first motorcycle was ridden by 23-year-old Martin, a boda boda operator and resident of Rwemishinya Cell, Nyamirama Sub-County. The second motorcycle was ridden by 50-year-old Evaristo Ndiyanabangi, a resident of Karukondo Cell, Nyakashure Parish, Nyamirama Sub-County.
Preliminary reports indicate that Martin’s motorcycle veered into the lane of Ndiyanabangi’s motorcycle, causing a head-on collision. Tragically, Ndiyanabangi died on the spot. Martin sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kambuga Hospital for medical treatment.
Police officers, led by PC Matanda, promptly responded to the scene. Ndiyanabangi’s body was transported to Nyamirama Health Centre III mortuary for post-mortem examination, while both motorcycles were impounded and are currently held at Nyamirama Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The police have issued a strong reminder to road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
