Kabale Territorial Police are investigating an incident in which PC Ariho Ronald, a police officer from Buhara Police Station, allegedly shot and injured Mwesigwa Rashid at Kigugo village, Buhara sub-county, on October 7, 2024, at around 4:54 PM.

According to police reports, Mwesigwa had been summoned several times on allegations of criminal trespass and malicious damage, but he repeatedly ignored the summons. On the day of the incident, when PC Ariho arrived at Mwesigwa’s home to arrest him, the suspect allegedly turned violent, threatening to attack the officer with a panga.

In response, the officer fired a warning shot in the air, but Mwesigwa reportedly continued advancing toward him. In self-defense, PC Ariho shot Mwesigwa in the leg, disabling him. Mwesigwa was immediately taken to Rushoroza Hospital for treatment, where he remains admitted.

The officer later filed a case of threatening violence, which is now under investigation. The scene of the crime is yet to be visited, and the firearm used has been documented as evidence. Investigations are ongoing.
