Police in Kabale District are investigating a case of suspected mob justice that led to the death of a Rwandan national identified only as Zimulinda, a resident of Kihanga village, Rwene Parish in Buhara Sub-county.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Saturday at around 12:50 PM when residents allegedly lynched the deceased. By the time police officers from Rwene arrived at the scene, the body of the deceased was already set ablaze.
The deceased, who was reportedly a well-known suspect in local cattle theft cases, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kabale District Police team visited, processed, and documented the crime scene before transferring the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and condemned the act of mob justice. He said investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the killing.
“We urge the public to desist from taking the law into their own hands. All suspected criminals must be handed over to the authorities for proper legal action,” said ASP Maate.
Inquiries into the case continue.
