Police in Bushenyi District are investigating a New Year’s Day accident that claimed two lives and left one person injured.
The accident occurred at Timbitwire-Kizinda-Kigoma along the Ishaka-Kasese road.
According to Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, the collision involved a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFZ 398X, and an unidentified motorcycle.
The deceased were identified as Ronald Mwegyesa, 20, a boda boda rider and resident of Kyamuhunga village, Nshumi Parish, Kyamuhunga Sub-County, and Jumba Arituha, 23, also a resident of Kibingo, Kyamuhunga Sub-County.
The injured victim was identified as Blessing Nahwera, 17, a resident of Omurubingo village, Nshumi Parish, Bushenyi District.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, traveling from Kasese, collided head-on with another unidentified motorcycle carrying a female passenger traveling from Ishaka.
Tumusiime attributed the cause of the accident to reckless riding and over-speeding. The bodies of the deceased and the injured victim were taken to Kampala International Teaching Hospital for postmortem and further medical attention.
