Police in Kisoro are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Everest Mazabugabo, a 28-year-old resident of Buturanya village, Chihe parish, Nyakinama sub-county in Kisoro district.
Mazabugabo, who was of Mufumbira descent and worked as a peasant, was allegedly found deceased on the morning of March 14, 2024, lying in the middle of a road with severe head injuries caused by a large stone.
According to reports, Mazabugabo had left home the previous evening around 07:00 PM to visit the trading center. His body was discovered the following morning at approximately 07:00hrs.
The police were alerted to the scene by Mark Hafashimana, and upon arrival, they conducted a thorough examination and documentation before transferring the body to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Local sources suggest that Mazabugabo had a history of theft within the village and had recently been released from prison two weeks before his death. It is speculated that this criminal background may have played a role in his murder, although such vigilantism is strongly condemned, as there are legal avenues for addressing criminal behavior.
The authorities are currently pursuing inquiries to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to Mazabugabo’s tragic demise.
