Police in Kanungu are currently searching for suspects believed to be involved in the assault of 28-year-old Ashrafu Namara, resulting in his immediate death.
According to a report from the deceased’s mother, Tumushabe Aisha, aged 57 and a resident of Kasiro cell, town ward, Kihihi town council, Kanungu district, the incident occurred on May 5, 2024, around 20:00hrs. She received a distressing call informing her that her son was in danger. When she spoke to him, Namara mentioned being attacked by a group led by one Saddam and six other individuals from Rutenga village.
Unable to investigate herself as she was at the bus park preparing to travel to Kampala, Aisha instructed her son Hamidu to check on his brother. Hamidu encountered a scene where individuals armed with sticks had assaulted Namara and fled upon seeing him. Despite their pursuit, Hamidu managed to escape and informed another brother, Niwabaine Kraishi, who accompanied him back to the scene. They found Namara severely injured, and he recounted being attacked by Saddam and his accomplices.
Tragically, Namara passed away while being transported to the hospital.
The police visited the scene, collected evidence, and took statements from witnesses. A postmortem was conducted, and the body was released to the family for burial. The suspects remain at large, and investigations are ongoing.
