Police in Kanungu District are on the hunt for a suspect identified only as Sam, who is accused of killing 21-year-old Derrick Ainebyona during a fight on September 4, 2024. The tragic incident occurred at around 11:00 AM in Ibambiro village, Rusoroza parish, Kihihi sub-county.
According to reports, Derrick Ainebyona was visiting the home of a friend, Godwin, where he was in the company of Judith, a female friend. A confrontation between Derrick and Sam escalated into a violent altercation, which ended in tragedy when Sam allegedly overpowered Derrick, killing him on the spot.
The local LC 1 chairman of Ibambiro village, Swaibun Bahati, was immediately notified, and he reported the incident to the authorities. A team of detectives and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) visited the scene, documented evidence, and recovered the body of the deceased. Derrick’s body was transported to Kihihi Health Center mortuary for a postmortem.
The suspect, Sam, fled the scene and remains at large. Police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information on the suspect’s whereabouts to aid in his arrest and prosecution. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
