Residents of Kakirago 2 Cell in Bugangari Parish, Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri District have called on the police at Rukungiri Central Police Station to conduct thorough investigations and dismantle a suspected livestock theft ring in their area.

The suspect, a Boda Boda rider from Nyamayenje Boda Boda stage, was arrested in Kafunjo Village, Kyatoko Ward, Rukungiri Municipality, with two slaughtered goats stolen from Kakirago. He was apprehended by Ngabirano William, a former police officer and resident of Kakirago 2 Cell.

Medard Akankwatsa, whose goats and chickens were stolen on August 24, 2024, expressed frustration that despite the suspect being held at Rukungiri Central Police Station, he was instructed to return to Bugangari Police Post to record a statement.

Christine Tushabe, another resident whose goats were stolen on August 15, 2024, believes there are accomplices in the area assisting the thieves. She urged the police to conduct thorough investigations and dismantle the entire network.

Kalori Turyatemba, a resident of Kakirago 2 Cell, revealed that thieves transport stolen goat meat in milk cans, referencing a recent accident involving a milk transporter where goat meat was discovered inside the cans.

Jackson Rwambuka, the LC1 Chairperson of Kakirago 2 Cell, criticized the police for neglecting patrols, failing to engage in community policing, and for quickly releasing suspects.

District Police Commander (DPC) Afande Apollo Kyangungu assured residents that the police are prepared to conduct thorough investigations and arrest all those involved in livestock theft to combat the rising crime.
