Police in Sheema District are hunting for unknown assailants who murdered one person and fled with an unspecified amount of money.
The incident occurred on 30/07/2024 at around 9:00 PM in Kanyina, Sheema Cell, Kagango Division in Sheema Municipality, along the Kabwohe – Mbarara Highway.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and reported that it was brought to Sheema Police Station on 31/07/2024.
It is alleged that Richard Tumukunde, 40, along with his three workers, was transporting cow dung from Ruhengyere-Kiruhura using motor vehicle registration number UAY 337B, heading to Katabarwa’s banana plantation in Kanyina, Sheema District.
Tumusiime stated that as they turned off the main road at Kanyina, Sheema, they were stopped by a gang of six robbers armed with pangas and a piece of wood.
The robbers stole an unspecified amount of money, mobile phones, and other properties, while also injuring the victims. During the altercation, one of the robbers was accidentally killed by his accomplices, and the gang then fled the scene.
Tumusiime added that the body of the deceased has been taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for a postmortem, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
