The launch of the roll out of the parish development model program in Rukungiri district that was held yesterday at Bugangari subcounty headquarters was characterized by drama after the guest of honor questioned the amount of funds disbursed to one of the pioneer beneficiaries.
The PDM was initiated by government to eradicate poverty at a parish level.
Hon. Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama the Deputy National Coordinator of the Parish Development Model (PDM) who had come to launch the roll out of the disbursement of funds was hesitant after one of the beneficiaries received 500000 instead of the 1m shillings that was being received by each of the 3 other beneficiaries
Rukungiri district is one of the 8 districts that where selected for roll out launch but the guest of honor Hon Jovrine Kariisa was shocked at the discrepancy
According to the Rukungiri district senior commercial officer Caroline Atuheire , the said beneficiary who received half a million had requested for the same
The Rukungiri district production officer Zepher Karyeija said, they started with sensitization of people at parish level on how to use the money, form parish development committees, select enterprise groups and forming saccos, across the district and 75 parish development saccos were formed across the district.
38 saccos have already received 17 million each and the rest 32 will receive their money soon. Hon. Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama later launched the program after some consultations.
