The parish development model program on Monday launched in Kanungu district with a call to beneficiaries to properly use the funds for the intended purpose.

Speaking at the launching ceremony at Kanungu district playground, Mathias Byamukama the PDM focal point person for Kanungu district said the district has 1671 groups that have been put under 97 PDM SACCOS where 4.74 billion shillings has been wired on different PDM SACCOS accounts.

He however noted inadequate human resources and budget cuts saying in the financial year 2022-2023 the district expected to receive 9.8 billion shillings but only received 4.74 billion shillings.

Robert Sendegyeya from the PDM secretariat said the delay to operationalize PDM in Kanungu was caused by individuals who submitted the wrong information.

He asked the beneficiaries to incorporate their savings schemes so that they don’t lose this money.

The district chairperson Eng Sam Kajojo sounded a warning to the beneficiaries to use the funds for the projects they submitted originally.

The RDC Ambrose Mwesigye asked the beneficiaries to work closely with the parish chiefs and sub-county community development officer to ensure that these funds are not misused.

He asked the beneficiaries not to look at this money as political money but funds meant to uplift them out of poverty.

The Kinkizi West MP Hon James Ruugi Kaberuka wondered why this initiative is being launched four days before the end of the financial year.

He said this money has been on SAACO accounts and wondered if this has not generated any interest and who is to claim it.

The chief guest also Kinkizi east mp Hon Chris Baryomunsi implored the parish development committee members to follow the guidelines and ensure the program is a success.
